Achilleion

The palace of Achilles is located in the picturesque settlement of Gastouni. This architectural diamond was built in 1890 by Empress Elizabeth of Austria-Hungary, known as Sissy.

The palace took its name from the mythical Achilles, thus reflecting Sissy's love for Greek mythology and culture. During your visit there you can admire the numerous luxurious rooms, the paintings, the countless statues as well as your walk in the impressive gardens.

Among the works that stand out is the oil painting that shows Achilles dragging the body of Hector with his chariot. This painting is a pole of attraction for many tourists, and was created by the Austrian painter Franz Matsch in 1892.
